I failed a mission — can I retry it?
One sentence in an 11,000-character changelog answers the whole question — and the release-week hotfix is a reason to retry.
Quick Answer
Yes. Open the Mission Log in the Camp's Briefing Room: the developer states it “lets you manually retry a mission you haven't managed to complete yet — so you don't have to wait for it to be offered again”. The same log shows a storyline's past events and tells you when a thread is blocked behind a mode or map you have not unlocked yet.
Steps
- Return to the Camp between runs and enter the Briefing Room.
- Open the Mission Log rather than accepting whatever mission is currently on offer.
- Find the incomplete mission and start it manually.
- If a thread appears stuck, check the log's note about needing a mode or map unlock before assuming the mission is bugged.
Requirements / Limits
- The stated retry rule covers missions you have not completed. Nothing addresses replaying a mission you already finished; Repeatable missions are a separate category of 19.
- Missions are offered one per run and in a partly random order by design, which the developer describes as rogue-lite pacing rather than a bug.
- Some thread progress genuinely is gated on unlocking a mode or a map, and the log is where that is shown.
- Version 1.0.0b tuned some mission objectives to be easier and less prone to mistakes, and fixed items spawned by the 99'th Balloon not counting toward mission objectives. The changelog does not say which missions were tuned.
Common Mistakes
- Grinding runs hoping the failed mission is offered again, when the log will start it on demand.
- Assuming a stalled storyline is a bug when the log says it needs a mode or map unlock.
- Retrying a release-day failure without updating first. If you failed it on 1.0 or 1.0.0a, the hotfix may have been the actual problem.
- Using Quick Run to skip the Camp and then never seeing the Briefing Room at all.
