What is Military Training and how do I use it?
Two separate players hit this pickup and said out loud that they had no idea what it was. Here is what the recordings establish.
Quick Answer
Military Training is an in-run collectible that appears as a marked bonus on the minimap. Walking into it awards Military Training points, and accumulating enough of them grants an extra upgrade choice on top of your normal level-ups. The cards offered are drawn from a rarity-weighted pool, so Luck, at least one Ranger badge, and an in-run congratulation reward can all raise the rarity of what is offered. Magnet power-ups can be upgraded to collect Military Training points, and the Ranger's dog collects them automatically. It is not exclusive to Infinite mode.
Steps
- Watch the minimap during a run. Military Training shows as a marked bonus at a fixed map location rather than dropping from enemies.
- Walk to it. One player narrates going for it specifically because, in his words, it will allow us to get another skill.
- Spend the extra choice when it is offered. In the recording it presents a normal-looking upgrade list — weapon cooldown reduction, Luck, movement speed, health regeneration — separate from the level-up that would have come anyway.
- Raise the rarity if you can. Luck increases Military Training card rarity, and an in-run congratulation reward in one recording states that one or two more of the Military Training upgrades are now at least rare quality.
Requirements / Limits
- It is not Infinite-mode only. One player who met it in Infinite mode says on camera that he does not think it is in the non-Infinity mode but is not sure. A second recording shows the same pickup on the minimap five minutes into an ordinary run, which settles it.
- The cost appears flat. A player who collected many across an 89-minute run observes that Military Training seems to always give the same amount and that the number required does not appear to rise as the run goes on. That is one player's observation over one long run, not a published figure.
- Collection can be automated in two ways seen so far: a magnet power-up upgrade whose text is that magnet power-ups now also collect Military Training points, and the Ranger's dog, whose description includes collecting Military Training points along with timed power-ups and cash.
- Rarity is a real property of the cards, not flavour text. Two separate systems — Luck and a Ranger badge — are described as raising it.
Common Mistakes
- Ignoring the minimap marker. The pickup does not come to you; both recordings show the player having to cross the map for it.
- Assuming it is an Infinite-mode mechanic because that is where you first met it. It appears in ordinary runs too.
- Treating Luck as unrelated to it. Card rarity is one of the two effects the Luck tooltip actually names.
- Expecting the requirement to scale like a level-up. The one long-run observation on record is that it does not.
