Which upgrades apply to my whole squad and which only to one Survivor?

The screens look alike. Skill-ups belong to one Survivor; stat power-ups do not.

Quick Answer

Skill-ups belong to the Survivor you picked them for — weapons, abilities and their upgrades. Stat power-ups apply to the entire squad: two independent 1.0 recordings show players reading a stat pick and noting out loud that it works for the entire team. In Infinite mode the run switches over entirely, offering power-ups instead of skill-ups. On top of that, 1.0's fifth skill-tree rank gives every Survivor one passive whose bonus the developer says applies to the whole team while that Survivor is present, and the Ranger's version of it grants the team +10 Luck.

Steps

  1. Read what the pick is attached to. A weapon or ability upgrade belongs to the Survivor whose tree it came from; a bare stat is not attached to anyone.
  2. Treat a stat power-up as a squad-wide pick. Two players in two different runs read a stat pick on screen and say it works for the entire team — one on weapon critical chance, one on weapon attack speed.
  3. Notice when Infinite mode switches the offer. At that point the header reads select power-up, and one player narrates that the power-ups are now offered instead of skill-ups.
  4. Check each Survivor's fifth rank before building a squad. The developer states that one node there applies to the whole team while that Survivor is present.

Requirements / Limits

  • The team-wide Rank 5 passive is conditional on that Survivor being present. That is the developer's own wording, not an inference.
  • One concrete instance of the node is on camera: reading the Ranger's tree, a player reaches text stating that while the Ranger is on the team, Luck is increased by 10.
  • The same read-through reports that every Survivor received the new tier, so each grants a bonus specific to them — the example given is Pyro granting maximum HP.
  • No source publishes how a team-wide stat pick is applied across Survivors, so whether it lands at full value on each is unknown.

Common Mistakes

  • Passing on a stat power-up because it looks small next to a weapon upgrade. The stat pick is multiplied across the squad; the weapon upgrade is not.
  • Expecting a Survivor's team-wide passive to keep paying out when that Survivor is benched. The developer ties it to the Survivor being present.
  • Carrying an Infinite-mode habit into a normal run. Infinite offers power-ups where a normal run offers skill-ups, so the balance of team-wide against personal picks is not the same in both.
  • Assuming everything on a Survivor's own tree is personal to them. At least one node on every 1.0 tree is not.
